On MacHeist

This MacHeist scuffle going on for the second year in a row now is nonsense and needs to end. I’m tired of reading about it everywhere.

First, each and every developer that is selling an application via this year’s MacHeist is doing so willingly. It is nobody else’s business whether they do so or not, and no one has the right to disparage them for making that choice. As a developer, they decided it was worth it to sell their app via MacHeist. Don’t presume to know the developers motives or mindset for doing so.

Even if each developer only makes approximately $1 for each bundle sold, they have already made over $17,000 as of this writing. Not bad for about a 24 hour period. My guess is that, for most of the developers included in the bundle, $17,000 is probably an excellent Q1 of 2009, much less an excellent 24 hour period.

Secondly, Mac users would be foolish as consumers not to purchase the bundle if they are interested in the applications included. Why would anyone in their right mind pay $900+ to buy the apps seperately when they can buy them all for $39? Where I come from, that’s called being a smart shopper.
