GracieFighter.com is reporting that Antonio McKee will be leaving the Internation Fight League to fight Jake Shields in the Extreme Cage Fighting Championship. McKee, a member of the Tokyo Sabres, faced the choice of fighting the highly touted Shields or sticking with the IFL.
According to the report:
On October 19, 2007 San Francisco California, the coveted Cow Palace will be a first for many. Antonio Mckee with his undefeated streak in the IFL was given an ultimatum by the IFL when he was approached by an up and coming new promotion for a fight against the well respected and decorated Jake Shields. Making news and headlines, Mckee respectfully resigned from the IFL to take the fight against Shields stating he has something to prove to the entire world that this fight will be the most explosive fight this year at 170 pounds and wants to answer the call to all those who want to see a retooled and redefined McKee aside from his ever potent wrestling game.
Antonio McKee was selected to fight in the IFL’s upcoming World Grand Prix in the welterweight division which is designed to provide an IFL title holder in each weightclass.
For a while it was rumored that Jake Shields would be fighting next against Frank Trigg, but Trigg has since made comments to the effect that fighting Shields would do nothing to advance his career. Shields tells a different story:
“I was supposed to be fighting Frank Trigg on this card but he found a way to duck me again. I know he was offered more money than he has ever made in a fight and he verbally agreed to the fight with the promoters. We were going to fight at 175lbs but then when it was time to sign the contract he refused and quit answering the promoters calls. I’ll fight anyone they put in front of me too bad Trigg won’t”
