The California State Athletic Commission has announced that Phil Baroni tested positive for anabolic sterioids after his recent fight with Frank Shamrock on June 22 in San Jose.
Baroni tested positive for both Boldenone and Stanozolol metabolites and was fined $2,500 and suspended for a full year (365 days). You may remember Boldenone is the same steroid that both Stephan Bonnar and Kit Cope tested positive for last year. Bonnar’s suspension has been served and he will make his return to the UFC this Saturday night against Mike Nickels.
Ken Pavia, Phil Baroni’s manager, had the following comment after the results were announced:
While we respect the process and intent of the tests, we are disappointed with the results as they are completely unexpected. Phil did not knowingly ingest these drugs, which we are told are veterinary in nature.
We intend to explore all rights that are afforded by the state commission and Armando Garcia [executive director of the CSAC].
Phil Baroni feels that worse than any fine or suspension is the disgrace to himself, his family and his fans. As such, he asks that judgment be withheld until all facts are in evidence.
