UFC Hall-of-Famer Ken Shamrock announced yesterday on Fight Network Radio that his contract with the UFC has been terminated by Zuffa. You may remember a little while back when the FightNetwork.com reported that Ken Shamrock might be fighting Michael Bisping at UFC 75, even though TicketMaster.com was already promoting the event as featuring a fight between Bisping and Matt Hammill.
Well, Dana...

BJ Penn to Fight for UFC Lightweight Title
UFC President Dana White appeared on ESPN’s “The Hot List” this afternnon and announced that BJ Penn would be fighting the winner of the Sean Sherk vs Hermes Franca fight which will take place July 7 at UFC 73.
Seems kind of surprising to me considering that BJ seemed like he wanted to return to the welterweight division and fight Matt Hughes again after his loss at UFC 63. But then again, BJ...
EliteXC Enters the Reality Show Game
Looks like EliteXC is getting into the MMA Reality Show scene and joining the UFC with The Ultimate Fighter and BodogFIGHT with their reality shows. However, EliteXC is pulling out all the stops and has brought in reality show mega-producer Mark Burnett to produce their show. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 10 years you’ve heard of Burnett or at least his shows which include...
UFC 69 Fighter Payout Ruling
I’m not sure how many of you remember or even care about the whole issue with the Texas Board of Licensing not releasing the fighter salary information after UFC 69: Shootout was held in Houston, Texas.
After the event I had quite a few readers ask me for the fighter payouts from the event. I was very interested in seeing the numbers myself considering this was the first event Georges St. Pierre...

Ninja Rua Cleared to Fight at Strikeforce
Josh Gross at Sherdog.com is now reporting that Murilo “Ninja” Rua will likely be allowed to fight this Friday night on the Strikeforce/EliteXC fight card. Last Friday, EliteXC announced the Rua would be off the card after he failed his physical with the California State Athletic Commission. EliteXC immediately was able to sign Falaniko Vitale to replace Rua and fight Joey Villasenor.

Mike Bisping vs Ken Shamrock at UFC 75?
Lets hope not…
Originally, Bisping was reported to be fighting Matt Hamill at UFC 75 in England. Today, Loretta Hunt from The FightNetwork is reporting that Ken Shamrock will come out of retirement to fight Michael Bisping at UFC 75.
The overseas new may not end there. Loretta Hunt, managing editor for The Fight Network’s MMA content, has learned that UFC Hall-of-Famer Ken Shamrock will...
Royce Gracie Tests Positive for Steroids
This will be a sad day for many long-time Mixed Martial Arts fans. The California State Athletic Commission is reporting that Royce Gracie failed his post-fight drug testing after his match with Kazushi Sakuraba at the K-1 show on June 2nd.
Mixed martial arts icon Royce Gracie, best known as the slender gi-wearing Brazilian who twisted oversized competitors into knots during the early days of...

UFC 72: Victory Preview
UFC 72: Victory takes place this Saturday afternoon at 3pm EST as the UFC holds their first show in Dublin, Ireland. Headlined by a good matchup between Rich Franklin and Yushin Okami, this fight card seems to lack some of the luster recent UFC events have held. Injuries have shortened the event to only 8 fights, so lets break them down a little.
Main Card
Rich Franklin Vs. Yushin Okami -...
Johnny Morton Test Postive for Steroids
Remember Johnny Morton’s tough knockout in his MMA debut at the K-1 show? You probably also remember the fact that he refused to take a post fight drug test. Well, we now know why.
In order to receive a license to fight, Morton, 35, was required to undergo a pre-fight urinalysis. According to Garcia, Sample A came back as positive for a “very elevated T/E ratio, which is testosterone. And...
UFC Fight Night 10: Recap
What an excellent, exciting night of MMA fights. The main event was action packed and exciting to watch from start to finish, and every other fight shown on the SpikeTV show was exciting to watch as well.
Spencer Fisher vs Sam Stout - This fight definitely lived up to, and probably exceeded most people’s expectations. Fisher looked as accurate and confident as I have ever seen him, even...
UFC Fight Night 10 Preview
The MMA-loaded month of June continues tomorrow night with another UFC Fight Night. There are several very strong fights on this card, and personally I’m looking forward more to this event than the upcoming UFC 72.
Main Card
Sam Stout vs Spencer Fisher - This rematch of a great battle from UFC 58: UFC vs Canada should be an excellent fight from start to finish. Both fighters are coming off...
MMA HQ Reader Recap: UFC 71
As some of you know, long-time MMA HQ reader Amir recently attended UFC 71 in Las Vegas. Well, Amir was kind enough to write up a few thoughts on his UFC experience and send me a few photos. So, here is Amir’s recap and some of the great photos he was able to take.
How can anyone put into words the experiences of a lifetime? I made it into the MGM Grand in Vegas
at around 3pm after a long, 5+...

KRQE News 13 in Albequerque, New Mexico is reporting that Albequerque native Diego Sanchez will be fighting Hayato “Mach” Sakurai at UFC 74 in August.
Diego Sanchez, of course, last fought at UFC 69 where he received his first loss at the hands of Josh Koscheck by decision. A lot of news circulated around Sanchez both before and after that fight including rumors of a Hepatitis-C infection before...

Josh Koscheck Speaks His Mind
Josh Koscheck finally said publically what most of the MMA world has been saying for the past few years. Through a MySpace.com bulletin, Koscheck became the first UFC fighter to publically criticize the current payscale for fighters fighting in the UFC.
UFC and boxing ppv dollars? UFC Prez Dana White is always quick to pull out the “boxing promoters are crooked” line during his frequent...
Jens Pulver to WEC Featherweight Division?
Reports are now arising that Jens Pulver, one of the coaches on The Ultimate Fighter Season 5, will move to the featherweight division of the WEC after his fight against B.J. Penn this month. Earlier today on the Savage Dog Show on Sherdog.com Radio, Monte Cox reported that Jens will make the move down to the 145lb weightclass in the WEC and most likely fight Urijah Faber down the road.
Jens...
WEC Debut on Versus
World Extreme Cagefighting made their live television debut on the Versus network last night and overall I thought the show was very good. The production value was excellent and for a first time viewer to the sport, I think that the initial impression was top notch.
Pros
Pace of the fights - All of the fights were good fights and well-paced with a lot of action. I’m not sure if this is...
K-1 USA: Dynamite
For those of you who didn’t get to see the K-1 USA: Dynamite show over the weekend, don’t worry; you didn’t miss much. Much was made about the K-1 show ahead of time and all the troubles they had trying to get the fight card off the ground, and overall the show was less than stellar. For those of you who like the “off-color” type of reviews, Fightlinker has a pretty accurate review of the show...

Paulo Filho Signing With the WEC
Paulo Filho, the Pride Bushido “legend” and a member of Brazilian’s Top Team, announced yesterday with Tatame magazine that he is close to signing a deal with the WEC. This will be an excellent signing for the WEC and its a great pickup for the organization. Filho, who is currently 14-0, is a submission specialist and would have been a great asset to the UFC. Adding Filho to the WEC improves...
MMA and the Mainstream Media
There is no denying that over the past three weeks or so, the “mainstream media” finally has turned its attention on the sport of MMA. To be more specific, the UFC itself has been ushered in the mainstream spotlight, not so much MMA in general, but that is beyond the scope of this post. During all the frenzied excitement that came over the MMA world regarding finally getting mainstream media...
